That song creates quite a dreamy feeling. It's a chill one if you simply need to relax and listen to something along these lines. Its back vocals are soothing, the electronic motifs fit well with the overall sound, and Amy's voice is soft and sweet. In all honesty though, I have no clue what the lyrics are actually about, and I cannot relate all that much to them, either. ;D The only similarity in my case would be my different "homes" but that's about it... Amy has said it's about a spirit going on to the next life or something like that... But it is written from their perspective... So it's like an apology and comfort from a lost loved one, who wants you to know they still love you, but they can't change the fact that they have to leave now. Lyrically, it is my favorite song of Ev3. My personal favorite is "I was looking to the sky when I knew I'd be swimming home", but nothing beats the simple "I'm sorry, nothing can hold me". Just perfect... And Amy has taught me that 'swimming' is an incredibly beautiful word, heh. I never noticed it before, but it is weirdly beautiful when sung.

Thank you for the detailed explanation, dear Melt! In fact, now that I know the background story behind this song, I think I'm starting to like it more and more. Swimming indeed is a weirdly beautiful word when sung, and I think that writing about death in such a sweet way seems (in a way) very peaceful and relieving. The entire song makes sense now! ;D

I think that after having this album for a while now, this is my favorite track. It's just beautiful with this ethereal feel to it, and the lyrics are so bittersweet. When I got to hear them play it, I literally felt like I was in this other world, floating among the mist and it was amazing. I am so happy they played it at that second show I went to.

I love the way Amy writes about death, it's like she has a talent for that subject in particular. I love Like You and Swimming Home especially. Also Hello was pretty innovative in the way she wrote it like she was going back in time to the moment her sis died. I always like the songs she writes about death, you can tell they come from a very deep place, they're not just your corny, obvious songs about loss.

The few songs on the subject Ev has I think are breathtaking. Personally, I would never write anything on the subject looking for a hit. Someone's death deserves more than that, I'm sure. And I've always loved Amy's take on the subject. "Hello" remains my favorite. But I've played "Swimming Home" for so many people and it's always touched a heart string.

I get the feeling that, if there are any tracks on the album that are about Amy's passed sister, then this is it. I don't think this is about her directly, but it definitely feels like a nod in her direction. A beautiful, slightly teary, heart-warming, reassuring nod.

I started learning this song on piano today. It was very hard since I couldn't stop crying because my aunt died yesterday.
EDIT:
Meaning to Swimming Home again.

I love the meaning of this song...Accepting death...something I can (or have to) relate to... My favorite part "...I was looking to the sky when I knew I'd be swimming home...I cannot betray my kind they are here it's my time" It's just a beautiful song and I really love it.

The only song on the standard edition that don't make my ears bleed. Haha. I'm glad Amy was able to use at least put out a song that was fateful to her original idea for the album.
As Amy said it was originally written for Ponyo, it would have been the perfect fit for it.
