This song actually reminds me of MIA more than anything else. Also I feel like I don't like Amy's vocals. As someone who grew up listening to Middle Eastern music I feel like she is appropriating the sound here.It makes the song sound so busy. OK, i need to check MIA. because if there's something with similar feel to this amazing track, i want to hear it. Any recommendations? I'm specifically reminded of Bad Girls by M.I.A. Its not atmospheric like Dark Water but both songs have a distinct middle eastern beat that is dark and fun at the same time.

Weirdly, this song is becoming one of my all time favorites by Amy. I LOVE her backing vocals and the overall atmosphere of this song. There is a moment from around 1:02-1:07 where Amy does something in the background that I don't think I've ever heard from her vocally. Idk how to describe the sound, but it just sounds very full, dark and haunting to me. Everything in this song goes so well together for me. LOVE.

This one is growing on me a lot. At first I didn't pay much attention to it, but now I'm taking some time to listen to the album in more detail, and I'm loving it.

I really love this song. And I thought I heard Amy in this! Though, I think some parts are just Malika. Amy did say that they did like two 20 min recording sessions of her vocals and Amy took it home and played around with them when she found something she liked. So, it could be that with just the chosen back vocals at a lower volume and layered on another track at some points. *shrug* Just a thought. Oh, and I must say that this song makes me want to dance! So upbeat and awesome! And are those claps I hear or sticks knocking off the rims? Hmm...

Does Amy actually sing those lyrics in the song? If not, I will be devastated. Those lyrics are perfection She wrote the lyrics and then they invited Malika to translate it into Arabic and sing it.

I've been lurking on here ever since EvThreads perished, but I just couldn't resist posting about this song! From a production and creativity standpoint, this is by far my favorite song Amy has ever created, and probably the most challenging for her to create! The entire album flows like a journey through someone's emotions, and this song is almost like a pit stop in the middle of the trip, and it's very dark and intense. You don't even need to understand the lyrics to grasp the emotion - it exists in the complex layers of the song and the intensity behind Malika's vocals. As the song builds it almost sounds like she's begging for someone to hear her; couple that with Amy's yearning background notes and it's like a carousel spinning out of control. The first time I heard it my anxiety level kept raising because it almost creates a sense of panic. It's just so cool On a side note: I'm finding it hard to just pick a song to listen to. The album has a start, middle and end IMO and I can't help but just listen from start-to-finish every time!

According to an Arabic fan on some FB group, the style that Malika sings in is Morroccan Arabic.

Dark Water reminds me of Weight of the World. Damn if you put some heavy guitars amongst it, it would sound so epic!

I've had this song on repeat for the past two hours. Is Malika actually singing the Dark Water lyrics Amy posted? Cuz I'd love to see the Arabic translation written out if anyone knows how. It'd be nice to sorta be able to see what she is singing cuz it's so beautiful. But when it's stuck in my head, I can't actually make out any words cuz I've never even really heard Arabic spoken. lol.

This song grew on me. The effects used in second half of the song really remind me of Bj枚rk's Biophilia, and true - M.I.A. is also there somewhere (it's crazy 'cause I listened mostly to Bj枚rk and MIA during Evanescence hiatus after TOD)

I know it's Moroccan Arabic but everytime I listen to this song I go back to August, 2008, when I went to Dubai. On the 3rd day we went on a rally in the middle of the sand and at night we were all in the middle of the Arabic Desert around a belly dancer, dancing and drinking. I still remember it as one of the best days of my life. I have to go there again <3

Hi! I'm an Evanescence fan since I first heard Bring Me to Life, and I still listen to them and Amy just like I did 10 years ago (Origin and everything). I honestly believe that everything Amy musically touches turns to gold for me and I'll love her forever. I never posted anything here (even though I new about this place ever since it was created), simply because I didn't want to speak just for the sake of speaking or because what I wanted to say was already said and processed, so to speak. However, now I do have something to say. My favourite track from Aftermath is Dark Water and I loved it from the first time I heard it. Is there anyone here (or anyone who knows somebody) who actually speaks Arabic and can write and translate the lyrics to this song? I can't say a word of Arabic but would like to know the exact lyrics Malika is singing (and how they compare to the original by Amy). Somebody already mentioned something in this regard (blueberry), but there was no reply, so I wanted to express that there are others who would like to see the actual lyrics of this song. Thanks a lot. F.
