Does anyone know what the name of the EP or demo album or at least the track listing/versions of songs that were on the demo that got Evanescence their record deal with Windup? Was it Origin?
Im hopping you CD collectors will know the answer to this one.
My band is recording our first EP and i thought it would be cool to listen to some pre fallen stuff as a a bit of fun research. I have a bunch of tracks from pre fallen evanescence but i thought it would be cool to get some context to which ones they were sending to labels and the track order.

Well Evanescence had their EP before their demo album Origin.... that tracklist is 1. Where Will You Go? 2. Solitude 3. Imaginary 4. Exodus 5. So Close 6. Understanding 7. The End and then the tracklist for Origin is this... 1. Origin 2. Whisper 3. Imaginary 4. My Immortal 5. Where Will You Go 6. Field of Innocence 7. Even in Death 8. Anywhere 9. Lies 10. Away from Me 11. Eternal hope that helps

But which one where they giving out to labels? I would say Origin since it was the EP they had professionally mastered and it is quite a bit more "complete" than their older works.

It was Origin. They "polished" it as they felt it would be better that way when they sent it to labels. The intention of Origin was to send to labels, but I'm not sure if they actually got Origin sent to any labels. My Immortal was the song Pete Matthews showed to the team at Wind-Up and "there wasn't a dry eye in the house" according to Pete Matthews.
You might want to check out the Scuzz TV interview as Amy talks about Origin in that.

Why does the EP say Bigwig Enterprises on it if its a CDR copy? It is not a mastered release, so its self-release but still has Bigwig on it?

We used to have someone on here that bought an Ev EP directly from a family member of Ben Moody's. I can't remember if it actually ended up being a CDR or not, it might have had an IFPI, I can't remember though. All the information got deleted when the member left the forum and they have since sold the EP to someone else. Brad from BigWig helped them distribute it. He helped promote them. He gave them lots of airtime on the radio show he hosted. I believe Ben Moody printed the EP's himself though. It was on their website, but was not sold through their website, only at shows. BigWig was a very amateur company though, they were just friends of Ben and Amy's, it's not like they were a professional record label. They were really small time, helping local bands get noticed and it was just to make the demo seem professional.

Be careful with your terminology here - it took me a moment to work out what you meant :-) Instead of saying self-release, maybe say "self published", and instead of "mastered", which I guess means glass mastered, try "pressed" - it summarises what you mean much more accurately. You can split the process of making a CD into recording, production, publication, and distribution. Amy/Ben recorded and produced the tracks, and published the CD-Rs. I remember someone said that Ben spent nights burning them and printing labels from his home computer. BigWig, which is basically a name given to Brad's (at the time) one-man company, helped distribute them (by selling them after shows) and by getting them airtime - hence why they're credited on it. We used to have someone on here that bought an Ev EP directly from a family member of Ben Moody's. I can't remember if it actually ended up being a CDR or not, it might have had an IFPI, I can't remember though. They were really small time, helping local bands get noticed and it was just to make the demo seem professional. Lots of CD-Rs actually have numbers where the IFPI should be to show who made them. But yeah, they were almost definitely CD-Rs . Pressed CDs (Red Book, almost always made using glass masters) are only cheaper when you hit the 500-copies mark, as glass masters were (and still are) pretty expensive to make. As only 100 copies were made, the chance of it being a Red Book pressed CD are really slim. (Source: Wikipedia, various replication plants, and personal experience - I helped a friend's band publish an EP, I invested a lot of time doing research)

Sorry for the double post but found some information. About the cover of Origin and some fun tidbit of info about 1998 EP: But nothing about IFPI's on the 1998 EP. Sorry, guys... :/ Though, I do believe our member who had an authentic 1998 EP in their possession had IFPI numbers (maybe just one) on their disc.

Yeah that's what I thought too, I'm sure he had some sort of code on the disc I mean, it would make sense that it had IFPI numbers since the disc was "pressed" and had disc art... I could be wrong though. I also do not know of a way that the disc art could have been done at home, so it almost would have had to go to a manufacturer, ya know? *shrugs*
