This would be the one that was recorded for Origin. Amy mentioned this in a 2003/2004 interview where she said that the Band version was to be track 4 but Wind up had other plans. She basically said the same thing in this interview that she said in the 2003/2004 one. I find that amusing. lol. ...The "band" version... that isn't a "real" piano either is it? It doesn't sound like it. Yes, it's a real piano. Just played with all three pedals. The piano played in the verses is played with both left and right pedal, which is why you get that sustained but muted sound. Then during the pre-chorus and chorus, it alternates between the right pedal and the middle pedal, for that quiet but rumbling piano sound. I figured this out by playing the song one day after band practice. Didn't realize but like 30 people crowded around the piano and were watching me play and make notations on my sheets. I was pretty freaked out afterwards...

At the end where she sings "ah me", but appears to stop short on the last note. I think what would sound really good there, and I think what they may have been trying to do actually is to play the last note of the vocal melody with the strings. You can hear it in the background, but I reckon it'd sound so much better if they had a full swell with the strings (and maybe some of the synthesisers) and brought the sound of that last note to the forefront in the mix. In this way the music could sort of conclude the sentiment in the lyrics. If we were to get deeper into it (I love this s***), the final "me" would become the orchestra. So in essence, Amy and the song My Immortal would be giving over to the orchestra and the music of the band itself. Symbolically passing what's generally a negative memory for Amy it would seem (Ben's masterpiece) over into the past legacy of Evanescence and the music as a whole, to then fall into the In-Between and into the next chapter of the band with Imperfection and the albums beyond this one.
(Don't worry, I scare myself with my crazy too, sometimes)

I haven't thought of the last note being stopped short to be translated by the orchestra... Very interesting indeed!

Can somebody talented enough please make a version of My Immortal switching back and forth between the Origin/Fallen version, the band version and the Synthesis version? Cos that would be awesome.

Origin (track 4) and Fallen (track 4) versions are the same. Only thing different are the added strings by Graeme Revelle for Fallen (track 4).

I always thought the strings on that track were too loud. Or is it just me?

Pretty sure that's why he listed the Origin/Fallen version as "Origin/Fallen" and not two different versions lol. I never realized that Graeme Revelle added those strings - I like some of the music he did for the movie The Craft! Small world. --- I like strings in the Synthesis version. The song doesn't change too dramatically, but it's nice - just not one of my favorites from Synthesis.

I have been an Evanescence fan since their first album. What's taken me to this forum is this reimagined version of this song. In my opinion this is the best version of the song. For me, I can hear a fragile voice singing from the beginning, almost afraid. I love how the "you still have" sounds so vulnerable and passive. I hear how her voice grows more strong and angry as the song progresses and breaks in the middle 8. It sounds like desperation, anger and then back to submission and vulnerability with "I've been alone all along". I actually don't know a singer who has conveyed so much emotion in their music as much as this one. Amy used to state she disliked this song... Her own version is so much more touching than the original. The original sand with the same emotional pitch. This one screams emotion. Wow

Wow The show I went to, Amy said something about this song having a new special meaning to her. And dedicated it to the fans.
