I definitely hear Whitney's influence on the vocals!

WOY is definitely a grower. The first listen was kinda ok-ish for me, but now I'm more into it. Interesting that they chose a power rock ballad as the first single. Probably they wanted something more radio friendly or wanted to release something different from what they've already done so far.

In a way, all the lead singled have been kind of unexpected and I think that's great.

It took me aback the first few listens but now I have a feeling this one is gonna be in heavy rotation for me. I cannot get it out of my head.

Personally I think it's about Robby and how she's dealing with that loss and the depression from it (the proverbial feeling of being wasted, and being six feet low) and this is her way of processing it. It definitely doesn't feel like a relationship song to me.

Finally registered to be able to post! I couldn't live more far away from NZ but just couldn't resist the song, so here are my preliminary thoughts: Firstly, I can't help thinking this song will be loved by those who wanted the Lillywhite record instead of Ev3. Yes, the chorus is heavy but this is how I imagine the Broken Record would have sounded. So good news for those fans. Secondly, as already discussed in relation to the album cover, also the chorus gives me very strong 90s grunge vibes. The song actually reminds me of Creep by Radiohead. The guitar riffs sound sort of homemade but in a good way. Thirdly, one wish I had for this album was that Amy's vocals would sound less live-like which I think was the case with Synthesis. I'm not expecting hyper-editing of vocals, but a little bit of studio magic would not do any harm to get a more polished outcome. I feel the vocals in this song are beautifully edited and layered and don't sound too raw, so I'm relieved. I'm one of the fans who wanted the Lillywhite sessions (lol), but didn't dig the song... maybe it'll take me a few listens to get into it. The rock part seems off to me. Lyrics and melody are in my head though. It may grow on me. Also not what I was expecting, but it's awesome. The mixing is spot. on. The guitars are heavy and cut through. I do miss Ev's string arrangements though. Hoping we haven't seen the last of them - any hints that there was a string recording session for the first batch of songs? I also missed the strings! Amy didn't mention having a string session for the first batch of songs, but we as fans always expect the lush string arrangements on Ev songs. Hoping there'll be strings on the other three songs.

So the song was officially released halfway so far! I heard it and really do love it! I can totally hear the influence of the Lillywhite sessions, but with a 2020 twang. I feel like it's almost like a mix of the Perfect Dream demo and Swimming Home. With that said, I hope Perfect Dream makes it on this album, I think it would fit well especially after hearing this song! So far so good! Looking forwards to the music video tomorrow!

I listened to the snippet. It sounds like a mix of everything they've done so far plus some Sally's song influence, all wrapped with a 2020 feel. I'm loving it. And yes, as a Lillywhite enthusiast this song makes me very excited for the rest of the album. I agree that Perfect Dream would fit just fine, I hope it makes it.

The bridge is the best bit! And yes a weak evanescence bridge just doesn’t exist!

To be honest, as a non-native speaker I struggle to understand what "Wasted on You" actually means. Could someone please explain? So, the original meaning of "wasted" would be like having something you have no use for. Meanwhile "wasted" in slang means to be drunk or stoned. As you know, when someone is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, their judgement is impaired and they aren't exactly going to be motivated to do or change anything. The song is basically saying that she understands that her relationship with whoever she is singing about is slowly going downhill, and she knows it's detrimental for her to still be there and thus it is a waste of everyone's time, but since she is "wasted on you," she's going to stay even if she's "drowning slowly" and whatever else imagery she is using to mean that it's no longer good for her to be there.

All I keep thinking with the second verse is life in quarantine. Lol.
