I mean that’s the beauty of this is we can take away whatever we like from this music. I relate to this song in a different way even though it’s likely not what Amy intended from it.

Yeah. If I'm being honest even though I love the song when I initially interpreted the lyrics as her saying it to someone else (it could be both really) I thought they were a bit cheesy and relentless? On the "And I will never let you forgeeeeet!!!" As compared to: We can't hide from ourselves and we can't lie to ourselves we know all our secrets and we can't forget them and if we do that we will run forever. I like that interpretation more, personally I've been in the same boat lately with these lyrics. Deciding that she is personifying the dark and speaking to herself/others really helps me appreciate the content as a whole. If I can spin their songs' perspectives to become more self-aware or introspective, it's easier for me to connect -- this song is already so rich with its conceit of self-acceptance through darkness. The only lyrics I shrug at a bit are in the chorus, which sound rather bland (her growing obsession with rhyming couplets occasionally limits the breadth of lyrical expression for me). But she sells the hell out of them with the belting, and the contrast between the low and sinister melodies elsewhere is just divine. And then the high background notes at the end... She is queen of the dynamics. Amy will forever be my favorite vocalist! She does layering like no one else.

Can we just talk about the absolute RANGE in this track? Amy hasn't used notes this low in a looong time.

This song reminds me a lot of NIN.
