Lyrics:
Missing - 2001 - 2002 Demo:This version is a little slower. Italics are back up vocals. The whispered "Can you stop the fire?..." is overlapped and faster in this song. You can also hear a "Please, please, please." and a "Ha ha hah haah." Whispered through out the verses.Ha ha ha haaha
Can you stop the fire?
Can you stand to fight her?
You can't stop the fire
You won't say the words. Please, please forgive me
But I won't be home again
Maybe someday you'll look up
And barely conscious you'll say to no one
Isn't something missing?
You won't cry for my absence, I know
You forgot me long ago
Am I that unimportant?
Am I so insignificant?
Isn't someone missing me?
Even though I'm the sacrifice (
Ooo)
You won't try for me, not now
Though I'd die to know you love me
I'm all alone
Isn't someone missing me?
Ha ha ha haaha
Can you stop the fire?
Can you stand to fight her?
You can't stop the fire
You won't say the words. Please, please forgive me
But I won't be home again
I know what you do to yourself
I breathe deep and cry out
Isn't something missing?
Even though I'm the sacrifice (
Ooo)
You won't try for me, not now
Though I'd die to know you love me
I'm all alone
Isn't someone missing me?
Ha ha ha haaha
Can you stop the fire?
Can you stand to fight her?
Please, please, please . . .
You can't stop the fire
You won't say the words
Please, please, please . . .Can you stop the fire?
Can you stand to fight her?
Please, please, please . . .
You can't stop the fire
You won't say the words
Please, please, please . . .Ha haah haa ha ha
Can you stop the fire?
Can you stand to fight her?
Please, please, please...
You can't stop the fire
You won't say the words
Please, please, please . . .Ha haah haa ha ha
Can you stop the fire?
Can you stand to fight her?
Please, please, please . . .
You can't stop the fire
You won't say the words
Please, please, please...
Ha haah haa ha ha
Ha haah haa ha ha
Ahh ahh ahh, ha ha.Song:

Some Things To Think About/Debate Over:
-EvLore has it that "Missing" was originally suppose to be on Fallen, but Wind-Up felt that "Missing" didn't mix with the theme of the album.
Sometimes certain songs just don't fit with the rest of the album. Take 'Missing' for example; I remember Amy saying that it didn't make 'Fallen' because it didn't fit with the rest of the songs chosen for the album.
-The following describes what the background whispers are when listening to "Missing":
The background vocals in 'Missing' say "Please, please", "Can you stop the fire?", "Can you stand to fight her?", "You can't stop the fire", and "You won't say the words". They are hard to decipher because they overlap and they jump from the left speaker to the right speaker of your stereo.
What are the whispered words in Missing?
Left audio channel: Can you stop the fire/ Can you stand to fight her
Right audio channel: You can't stop the fire/ You won't say the words
And throughout the song in both channels its Please...please...please...
Throughout the verses there is a looped background vocal of Amy whispering "can you stop the fire? please.. please.. please.." and "you can't stop the fire" on the LEFT audio channel plus "can you stand to fight her" and "you won't say the words" on the RIGHT audio channel.
-A "funny" song meaning as posted by Ben Moody:
Missing:
Okay, this one's actually not about Ben. It's about Amy's old bike that felt neglected when Amy got a shiny new one
-Missing was first released on the "Bring Me To Life Single" as Track #4. For reasons unknown, this was only done on the Australian single, since the song was soon replaced with the Music Video for Bring Me To Life. Missing would get a wider release with the "Anywhere But Home Live CD."
-Missing was the last outtake (sans the unreleased "Forever You") from Fallen to be played live - Farther Away and Breathe No More were both played during the Fallen Tour (FA first, then BNM later). Missing was finally played in 2007.
-Missing was released as a Promo Single in order to promote the "Anywhere But Home Live CD." They are quite rare.
-Note that the whispers in the beginning of "Missing" are older than the rest of the song. These whispers can be heard at the end of the 1999 Vino's performance of "Exodus," thus showing that those lyrics were not written at the same time as the rest.
-When "Missing" was released (along with the rest of the Fallen LP, "Farther Away," and "Breathe No More" by Wind-Up, before Fallen was actually released) there were many bleeps and swirls in all of the songs. This was suppose to "gather interest" in Evanescence before March 2003, when the Fallen LP actually came out. On the
Origin Re-Release bootleg, that particular copy of the Missing (Final Edit) comes from the batches Wind-Up released. Although the bootleggers tried to clean up and fix the song, there are still some significant problems with the .mp3 (such as the song being LQ, weird wooshes and clips in places, and so forth). That song is known as Missing (Origin Re-Release).
There were so many different qualities of the hiss/beep ridden FA, BNM, and Missing, that it's hard to say. I think that the bootleggers found the less bleep/hiss ridden song and just put it on there. If I remember correctly FA had hisses like every 30 to 45 seconds, and also was in horrible quality with the hisses still in it. BNM was just such low quality that it was impossible to listen to and it hurt and there were constant bleeps, IF I remember it correctly with BNM. I think I only downloaded it once and only listen to like the first 30 seconds once I think. Missing was the same as FA.
-According to Amy Lee, from an interview with Vampire Freaks in (mid 2012?) this is the meaning behind the song "Missing":
Amy Lee: As far as if she got it right, I would say you always get it right. When it comes to music and art it’s always about how each individual interprets it. Some of our songs are self reflective but some of them are also story telling. For me that song was all about running away, but its poetry so please do take from it what you can.
-It is unknown as to whether or not the "Missing (Radio Edit)" is an official release or not. It seems to have popped up out of nowhere. It has a duration of 3:04 and the entire second part of the song is cut. Double A, do you know by any chance if this is on any of the Missing Promo CD's?
-According to Music Notes:
(1) Missing is written in D Minor.
(2) It is set in a time signature of slow time and performed in a tempo of 88 beats per minute.
(3) Amy Lee's vocals range from C#4 to the note of D5.
